Las Piscinas de la Virgen
The town of Banos is literally named after the plethora of thermal baths that surround it. So, when you’re in this are of Ecuador it should come as no surprise that you’ll be tempted by all kinds of hot springs tours and options. If there’s one hot pool that you don’t want to miss, though, it’s Las Piscinas de la Virgen!
Las Piscinas de la Virgen is the only hot pool in the town of Banos itself, so it’s nice and easily accessible by public transportation. La Piscinas de la Virgen’s pools were built way back in 1928 and were named for the Virgin Mary herself, who is said to have come to dip her own feet in these baths. The views are spectacular and it’s easy to spend an entire day hopping back and forth between the different pools.
There are different entry prices depending on what time of day you arrive (ranging from $1-3, so not expensive) and you are provided a locker to store your belongings while you enjoy the hot baths.
There are three pools located outside on the top deck, while the fourth pool is one deck below the others. Of the three pools, one is cold, one is warm and the third reaches 42°C and is sure to relieve any aching muscles you have from your trip. The baths also offer incredible views of Banos for you to take in while you’re relaxing.
